X JUBILEE ECPD INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON

YOUTH REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH - A KEY FACTOR OF SOCIETY'S SURVIVAL AND DEVELOPMENT

(Hotel „Splendid“ − Budva, 22 - 26 June 2020)

We have the pleasure to invite you to participate in the work of this year's already traditional, ECPD International School Reproductive Health Promotion and Care (hereinafter: School). Preserving and promoting reproductive health is of particular importance to every society, especially one characterized by low birth rates. Therefore, measures to improve adolescent reproductive health, healthy motherhood and address infertility are important elements of strategic action aiming to achieve free replacement of generations.

The development of civilization has led to changes in many factors that can affect human reproduction: medical, social, economic, cultural, ethical, religious and legal factors are just some of the possible determinants of human reproduction. We can say with certainty that the demographic potential of this area is largely conditioned by a declining trend in fertility rates, low fertility and insufficient population recovery. Such poor tendencies are reflected in the demographic recession, where in addition to natural depopulation, there is an increasingly intense aging process, which causes disturbances in the vital structures of the population, with many negative repercussions.

The event entitled "Towards a Better Demographic Future of Serbia", held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts on February 27, 2017, outlined some significant aspects of demographic trends. It was said that negative demographic trends became a precursor problem, a problem from which, directly or indirectly, explicitly or implicitly, other problems arose, in other words, the problem of all problems. Today, these space is characterized by a negative natural increase with emigration measured in the tens of thousands.

EUROSTAT projections indicate that population in most Central and Eastern European countries will be significantly reduced by 2050. UN projections show the same dark picture. A 2014 United Nations report on the world population status stated that since the 1994 Cairo conference, until today, the planet's population has increased from 5.7 billion to 7.2 billion. According to population projections over the next half century, it is expected to continue growing in numbers. However, mostly undeveloped regions of the world can expect population growth in the future, so that by 2050, it is expected that over 80% of world population growth will account for Africa's population growth (United Nations, 2014). On the other hand, developed parts of the world will continue to face the problem of insufficient birth. When it comes to the level of economic development, the Western Balkan region belongs to the underdeveloped part of the world, but in demographic terms it is part of the developed world. Given this briefly, the question arises: Is there anything more important or prioritized than worrying about survival?

Starting from the fact that the multisectoral approach to reproductive health care is most effective, the School's program is designed so that the trainees can be physicians (of family medicine, gynaecologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians and other specialists), educators, social workers, sociologists, demographers and other profiles of professionals engaged in this area.

President of the School Council is Prof. Dr. Slavica Đukić Dejanović, Minister in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in charge of Demography and Population Policy. Director of the School is Prof. Dr. Nenad V. Babić, Medical Faculty, University of Banja Luka, and Co-Directors are Prof. Dr. Vesna Kopitović, ECPD UPUN Professor and Prof. Dr. Bojana Berić, Long Island University (LIU), New York, USA.
